1st call of Nedlloyd Mercator vessel of Maersk Line at Tarragona

The Nedlloyd Mercator vessel of the Maersk Line shipping company called at the DP World container terminal of the Port of Tarragona last Thursday, 29 January.
This vessel is visiting our waters for the first time for its inaugural call in the ME3 service which will lead her to Gioia Tauro (Italy), Port Said (Egypt), Suez Canal (Egypt), Salalah (Oman), Jebel Ali (Dubai), Jawaharlal Nehru (India), Salalah (Oman), Jidda (Saudi Arabia), Aqaba (Jordan), Suez Canal, Port Said, Gioia Tauro Algeciras and Port of Tangier (Morocco), before making land again in Tarragona.
With a displacement of 66,526MT, 178.01m length, 40m beam, and a draught of 24.30m, the ship has a capacity of 5,468TEU, of which 500TEU are Reefers. The container ship, which was launched in the year 2000, is the largest one that has operated to date in the container terminal of the Port of Tarragona.
During the loading and unloading operations, which ran smoothly, the new information technology system which enables the complete process to be controlled in real time was optimized.
The shipping company’s aim is to cover this regular line, which 4 other vessels operate, offering customers weekly frequency.
With the implementation of this line, container traffic and volume has notably increased in the Port of Tarragona, while the shipping company’s venture with DP World Tarragona Terminal located in the Andalusia Wharf begins.
