DP World is one of the largest marine terminal operators in the world, with 50 terminals and 11 new developments and major expansions across 31 countries. Its dedicated, experienced and professional team of nearly 30,000 people serves customers in some of the most dynamic economies in the world.

In June 2008, with the Port Authority's approval, DP World purchased 60% of the container terminal shares of the Port of Tarragona from Contarsa Sociedad de Estiba (Stevedore Services).

In the words of the Chairman of DP World, Sultan Ahmed bin Sulayem, "Tarragona, due to its considerable growth potential, is a stimulating incorporation to DP World's global portfolio".

The future plans for DP World Tarragona entail an increase in its total area, reaching 503,000m² and enabling traffic of up to 1.5 million TEU's. This transformation will result in an investment of more than 50 million Euros in the next few years.
