DP World is one of the largest port terminal operators in the world with a current network of more than 44 installations and 18 ongoing projects spread over 28 countries in 5 different continents.
In June 2008, with the Port Authority's approval, DP World purchased 60% of the container terminal shares of the Port of Tarragona from Contarsa Sociedad de Estiba (Stevedore Services).
In the words of the Chairman of DP World, Sultan Ahmed bin Sulayem, "Tarragona, due to its considerable growth potential, is a stimulating incorporation to DP World's global portfolio".
The future plans for DP World Tarragona entail an increase in its total area, reaching 503,000m² and enabling traffic of up to 1.5 million TEU's. This transformation will result in an investment of more than 50 million Euros in the next few years.
